Overview

CasinoOnlineRank uses a transparent, weighted scoring algorithm to rank every online casino in our database. There are no subjective "feel" scores, no rankings influenced by commercial relationships, and no hidden weights. Every number is derived from verifiable, independently checkable data.

The overall score for each casino is calculated from five categories, each weighted differently based on our editorial assessment of what matters most to players:

CategoryWeightWhat It Measures
T&C Fairness25%How fair and transparent the bonus terms are
Game Library Size20%Total number of games available
Game Providers20%Number of software studios supplying games
Payment Methods20%Number of deposit/withdrawal options
Bonus Quality10%Overall value and generosity of the welcome offer
Operator Size5%Scale and establishment of the operator

The Five Criteria in Detail

1. T&C Fairness Score (25%)

This is our most heavily weighted category because bonus terms directly determine whether a player can actually withdraw their winnings. Our editorial team manually assesses each casino's bonus terms and assigns a score from 1โ€“10 based on:

2. Game Library Size (20%)

Scored based on total game count, normalised against a maximum of 3,000 titles. A casino with 3,000 games scores 10/10; one with 300 games scores approximately 1/10. This includes all game types: slots, table games, live casino, video poker, and speciality games.

3. Game Providers (20%)

Scored based on the number of distinct software studios supplying games, normalised against a maximum of 12 providers. More providers means greater variety, better quality assurance, and resilience against any single studio's game lineup. We specifically value the presence of top-tier studios: Evolution Gaming, NetEnt, Pragmatic Play, Play'n GO, and Microgaming.

4. Payment Methods (20%)

Scored based on number of supported deposit and withdrawal methods, normalised against a maximum of 9. We value both breadth (cards, e-wallets, bank transfer, crypto, local methods) and the inclusion of fast options like Trustly, PayPal, and cryptocurrency.

5. Bonus Quality (10%)

A separate assessment of the raw value and attractiveness of the welcome bonus offer, scored 1โ€“10 by our editorial team. This considers match percentage, maximum bonus amount, free spin count, and any no-deposit offers.

6. Operator Size (5%)

Large operators score 10, medium 6, small/boutique 3. Larger operators typically offer more stability, better customer support infrastructure, and broader game catalogues.

The Scoring Formula

The overall score is computed as follows:

score = (games_score ร— 0.20) + (providers_score ร— 0.20) + (payments_score ร— 0.20) + (tc_score ร— 0.25) + (bonus_score ร— 0.10) + (size_score ร— 0.05) where: games_score = min(numGames / 3000, 1) ร— 10 providers_score = min(numProviders / 12, 1) ร— 10 payments_score = min(numPayments / 9, 1) ร— 10

All components produce a value between 0 and 10. The final weighted score therefore also falls between 0 and 10. Scores are rounded to one decimal place for display.

Daily Score Refresh

Rankings are recalculated every day at midnight UTC. A small random element (within ยฑ7% of the total score) is added to each casino's score to simulate real-world variation in day-to-day performance and prevent any single casino from being permanently fixed at #1. This means that two closely-scored casinos will genuinely alternate positions over time, reflecting the fact that the difference between them is marginal.

The randomisation does not apply to the T&C, provider, payment, or bonus scores โ€” those remain static until manually updated. Only the final composite score includes the daily variance element.

Editorial Independence Guarantee

CasinoOnlineRank's rankings are 100% editorially independent. Casino operators cannot pay for higher rankings, featured placement, or positive reviews. We may earn affiliate commissions for player referrals โ€” this is disclosed on every page โ€” but commissions are earned equally regardless of ranking position.

If we discover that a casino has changed its T&C for the worse, reduced its game library, or had its licence revoked, we update our data and re-calculate scores immediately, even if this casino is a high-earning affiliate partner. Player safety and accuracy always take precedence.

How Casino Data Is Updated

Our editorial team reviews each casino at least once per year, with continuous monitoring for:

When significant changes are detected, the casino's score is recalculated and the review is updated. The last-reviewed date is displayed on each casino review page.
